The “Temp” Mentality Has Changed

The mindset of employers and temp professionals has shifted dramatically as labor constraints have forced employers to be more creative in their hiring decisions. Therefore, companies strategically hire temp staff to fill their headcount gaps to keep business moving.

The stigma associated with temporary workers has faded in recent years. Before, the temporary employee would join the company for a limited time and take on the tasks that regular employees avoided. The gap between the temp staff and the full-time permanent employees was apparent regarding culture and team morale.

While “temp” is short for temporary, these professionals don’t want to be less valued during their brief tenure with the organization. The temps emphasized becoming part of a brand, the business, and impacting the bottom line, even if they are only going to be with the company on a three-month basis. Often, there may be an option for the temp worker to be brought on permanently if there is a mutual benefit.

The increased motivation of temporary workers has changed how businesses see this hiring option. Nowadays, companies don’t view temp hiring only as a way to test the waters; they enlist outside help to assist with a short-term strategic project that needs immediate attention.

The entire philosophy for using temporary workers has shifted. Companies are increasingly seeking experts to impact the bottom line on a contract basis significantly rather than necessarily looking at them as an interim head. It’s a win-win.
