How the Recruiting Process is Similar to the March Madness Tournament

March is quickly coming to a close and that means we are nearing the end of the NCAA March Madness Tournament.

If you’re not familiar with March Madness, it refers to the Division I College Basketball tournament where 68 teams from across the nation have the chance to battle it out for the right to be crowned the next national champion.

In a way, March Madness is a lot like the recruitment process. You engage with a large number of top candidates in the marketplace with the goal of getting them to advance. Sometimes your number one pick ends up getting eliminated in a background check and sometimes the candidate you least expected makes it to the final round of interviews.

After phone screens, initial interviews, and thorough vetting, your long list of over 100 potential candidates have been narrowed down to just four. In this Final Four stage of recruiting, you really start to form connections with candidates and put them through a more rigorous interview process to see who will come out on top.

You may have four really great candidates, but only will be crowned the champion and land the position. You have to find the candidate that has the best combination of skills, experience, and culture fit for your business.

As you watch the Final Four this weekend, think about the skills, experience, and intangibles it takes to make it this far in the tournament and ultimately win it all.  At Naviga, we look for these same factors when selecting our top candidates.

So, if you need to add some top sales or marketing talent in the near future, let us know – we’d love to help.  Given our track record of picking the best, I predict the ultimate winner will be you!
